General Information

What is COVID-19?

COVID-19 is an illness caused by a novel strain (SARS-CoV-2) of coronavirus which can spread from person to person. There are many types of coronavirus, the first being identified in the 1960s, but this particular strain is one which has not been previously detected. People with COVID-19 may exhibit a wide range of symptoms, from mild to severe illness.

What is SARS-CoV-2?

SARS-CoV-2 stands for Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus Type 2, which is the name of the virus causing the current COVID-19 public health emergency.

Who should be tested for SARS-CoV-2?

Anyone who may have been exposed to the coronavirus, has symptoms of COVID-19 or wants to assess whether they have developed the antibody. It is recommended that you contact your healthcare provider first.

What are IgM and IgG antibodies?

Similar to infections with other pathogens, the SARS-CoV-2 virus triggers the patient’s immune system to develop IgM and IgG antibodies to fight the virus.  IgM antibodies are produced first through the immune response, usually in the first week after the onset of the virus.  The IgG antibody appears later, usually within 2-4 weeks after the virus onset, and replaces the IgM antibody.  Typically, the IgG antibody persists as part of an individual’s immune response for life.

Is an individual that has a positive IgG result immune to SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19)?

We currently do not have enough information yet to say whether someone will definitely be immune and protected from reinfection if they have antibodies to the virus. ZEUS Rapid SARS-CoV-2 IgM/IgG Test System

What is the ZEUS Rapid SARS-CoV-2 IgM/IgG Test System?

The ZEUS Rapid SARS-CoV-2 IgM/IgG Test System is a rapid, in vitro diagnostic test for the qualitative detection of IgG and/or IgM antibody to the SARS-CoV-2 (novel 2019 Coronavirus) in human serum, plasma or whole blood. The system is built on a colloidal gold-based immunochromatographic lateral flow test strip. This test is for in vitro diagnostic use only as an aid in the diagnosis of previous exposure to the SARS-CoV-2 virus.

What is the antigen used in the ZEUS Rapid SARS-CoV-2 IgM/IgG Test System?

The ZEUS Rapid SARS-CoV-2 IgM/IgG Test System utilizes a combination of recombinant spike protein 1 (S1) viral protein and recombinant nucleoprotein (N-protein) as the antibody capture antigens. ZEUS’s dual antigen approach is unique as it provides the benefits of the nucleoprotein, which is highly immunogenic and abundant, with the spike protein (S1), which has a high affinity for neutralizing antibodies.

How long does it take to obtain results?

After adding the patient sample, it takes 15 minutes to obtain a result with the ZEUS Rapid SARS-CoV-2 IgM/IgG Test System.

What tests will be reported?

The results for this test are reported as IgM positive, IgG positive, IgM & IgG positive, Negative, or Invalid.

What do positive test results mean?
  • A positive IgM result on this test indicates that the patient has IgM antibody to the SARS-CoV-2 virus.
  • A positive IgG result on this test indicates that the patient has IgG antibody to the SARS-CoV-2 virus.
  • A positive IgM & IgG result on this test indicates that the patient has IgM & IgG antibody to the SARS-CoV-2 virus.

What does a negative test result mean?

A negative result on this test indicates that the patient does not have detectable IgM or IgG antibody to the SARS-CoV-2 virus.  However, negative results do not rule out SARS-CoV-2 infection, particularly in those who have been in contact with the virus.

What does an invalid test result mean?

An invalid result on this test means neither a positive or negative result can be reported and that the test should be repeated.

How many tests come in a ZEUS Rapid SARS-CoV-2 IgM/IgG Test System kit?

Each test kit contains 25 individual tests.

ZEUS ELISA SARS-CoV-2 IgG Test System

What is the ZEUS ELISA SARS-CoV-2 IgG Test System?

The ZEUS ELISA SARS-CoV-2 IgG Test System is an Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA) intended for the semi-quantitative detection of IgG antibody to the SARS-CoV-2 (novel 2019 Coronavirus) in human serum and plasma (EDTA, Lithium Heparin, Citrate). The assay follows our core ZEUS universal ELISA assay protocol and allows for simple, efficient and flexible automation. This test is for in vitro diagnostic use only as an aid in the diagnosis of previous exposure to the SARS-CoV-2 virus.

What is the antigen used in the ZEUS ELISA SARS-CoV-2 IgG Test System?

The ZEUS ELISA SARS-CoV-2 IgG Test System utilizes a combination of recombinant spike protein 1 receptor binding domain (S1-RBD) viral protein and recombinant nucleoprotein (N-protein) as the antibody capture antigens. ZEUS’s dual antigen approach is unique as it provides the benefits of the nucleoprotein, which is highly immunogenic and abundant, with the spike protein (S1-RBD), which has a high affinity for neutralizing antibodies.

Will I be able to multi-batch with other ZEUS ELISA assays?

Yes, the ZEUS ELISA SARS-CoV-2 Test can be multi-batched with the rest of the ZEUS ELISA assays. While multi-batching or automating multiple ELISA kits together on the same plate, the TMB substrate, Stop Solution and wash buffer can be used as universal components. Additionally, IgG diluents can be used universally with all IgG kits.

Can the ZEUS ELISA SARS-CoV-2 Test be used with automation?

Yes, the ZEUS ELISA SARS-CoV-2 Test is designed to be used manually or on automation. ZEUS has validated assay performance on the Dynex Technologies suite of instruments (DS2®, DSX®, Agility®).  With the ZEUS universal procedure, this provides automation efficiencies, faster turn-around times, and easier multi-batching.

How long does it take to obtain results?

The procedure for the ZEUS ELISA SARS-CoV-2 Test System takes approximately 1 hour.

How are tests interpreted?

The results for this test are reported as IgG positive, IgG negative, or equivocal.

What does a positive test result mean?

A positive result indicates that IgG antibodies specific to coronavirus were detected.

What does a negative test result mean?

A negative result indicates no significant amount of IgG antibodies to coronavirus were detected.  Negative results do not rule out SARS-CoV-2 infection, particularly in those who have been in contact with the virus. Follow-up testing with a molecular diagnostic should be considered to rule out infection in these individuals.

What does an equivocal test result mean?

If a sample generates an equivocal result, it should be repeated in duplicate. Alternatively, the sample could be repeated using another methodology. Please refer to the instructions in the package insert.

How many tests come in a ZEUS ELISA SARS-CoV-2 IgG Test System kit?

Each ZEUS ELISA SARS-CoV-2 IgG Test System is a 96-test system.
